What they are
Two therapies are in common veterinary use. Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is prepared from a blood draw: the blood is spun so that platelets and the growth factors they carry are concentrated in a small volume. Mesenchymal stem cells, or MSC, are cultured from tissue – most often a little fat – and grown until there are enough for a dose. Both come from the animal itself, so there is no donor to match.

Where veterinarians use them
Veterinarians use these therapies for osteoarthritis, tendon and ligament injury, and some skin and wound cases – most often in dogs, horses and racing camels. Outcomes vary between animals and between conditions, and published evidence is stronger for some uses than for others. Treatment is always prescribed and administered by a licensed veterinarian; we prepare the cells, we do not treat.¹

Availability and permitted uses differ between the UAE, Bahrain, the United States and other jurisdictions and are governed by local veterinary regulation. Before any preparation begins we confirm, with your veterinarian, what is permitted where your animal will be treated.

- Will this cure my animal?
- No therapy we prepare is a cure. Some animals improve markedly, some a little, some not at all. Your veterinarian will tell you what is reasonable to expect for the condition.
- Can you treat my animal directly?
- No. We prepare the cells; your veterinarian prescribes and administers them. We can work with your own veterinarian or a partner clinic.
- Is it safe?
- Because the cells are the animal's own, rejection is not expected. Every dose is tested for sterility before release. Local reactions at the injection site can occur.
- Can racing animals be treated?
- Often, but racing rules vary by authority and may require a withdrawal period. We check the rules for your animal's discipline first.
